This Man is Traversing America for Blockchain, Charity & Homelessness
For the second time in his life, Jason King is trekking across the US on foot to raise awareness for blockchain and money for charity to combat the homelessness epidemic in America.
In 2014, Jason ran from Miami, FL to San Francisco, CA (a total of 3,237 miles) for his project Bitcoin Across America. On the 5 year anniversary of his successful campaign, he is pushing the envelope once more in his new project Blockchain Across America and it will benefit Satoshi Forest, a Florida non-profit created in response to Pensacola’s anti-homeless ordinances that have been detrimental to some of our most vulnerable citizens. To date, Jason has raised $7,131 towards his $250,000 goal that will build a kitchen, shower and laundry facilities for Satoshi Forest residents.
Since 2013, Satoshi Forest has provided more than 170,000 meals for the homeless, and they have a higher “graduation” rate (meaning those who utilize their services find stable employment and housing) than many of the other shelters in the area. This shows that their model is reproducible and more sustainable than many of the other methods currently being utilized.
So, who is Jason King? According to Blockchain Across America’s website:
“ I’ve been involved in the bitcoin/blockchain space since 2010. Currently, I’m the co-founder at the Kingsland School of Blockchain (Kingsland University, Atlanta, GA) But, for a lot of people in the industry, I got known for my work in promoting blockchain for humanitarian use cases. In 2013, I founded Sean’s Outpost. The first primarily bitcoin-funded charity. To date, Sean’s Outpost has fed over a quarter million meals to the homeless using bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Sean’s Outpost went on to found Satoshi Forest Sanctuary, a 9 acre homeless campground in Pensacola, FL that provides a safe space for those in need (more about Satoshi Forest Later) I also founded Unsung.org, an app that’s like uber for feeding the homeless, connecting leftover food from grocery stores, restaurants, caterers with those in need.”
Some of the well-known names in the crypto-world supporting Jason and Satoshi Forest are SALT, Academy, Path, and Stellar. Jason believes if you want your project’s voice to be heard, you have to get noticed. And, as he says, stupid human tricks work!
